| CSA International announces consumer safety alert for Juche Electric Group Company-branded circuit breakers APB-20-07 |
Toronto - September 20, 2007 - CSA International is announcing a consumer safety alert regarding Juche Electric Group Company-branded circuit breakers manufactured in China. The affected circuit breakers bear counterfeit (unauthorized) registered trademarks belonging to CSA International and may pose a serious risk for fire and/or electrical shock.
These circuit breakers are installed as components in portable gasoline and diesel powered generators. These generators have been widely sold and distributed via retail outlets, as well as online at various websites, and through equipment auction houses. The generators were sold throughout North America. These circuit breakers could be installed in generators which may or may not bear a separate certification mark for the entire unit.
An investigation by CSA International has revealed that these circuit breakers do not meet the applicable CSA standards and fail to trip within the prescribed time limits. The product is not certified by CSA and there are no Juche Electric Group Co. Ltd products that are eligible to bear the CSA International certification mark.
The circuit breakers are light grey in color with a blue actuator handle. The CSA International certification mark monogram may appear with other certification marks and/or the CE mark. The circuit breakers have the name "Juche" indicating that they were manufactured by Juche Electric Group Company of Wenzhou, Zhejaing, China. The circuit breaker model numbers observed to date are C30, C25, C20 and C16.
Consumers should immediately stop using any generator that has one or more of these circuit breakers installed and should contact their point of purchase. No incidents of fire or injury have been reported.
