For manufacturers selling recloseable child resistant packaging containing solid or liquid drugs and medication used in the Canadian market, CSA Group is your single source for testing & certification and standards solutions. Testing & certification
CSA Group tests & certifies cap-and-vial recloseable packaging using children, young adults and seniors in real life situational testing. Various combinations of cap-and-vial packaging are given to the identified age groups to see if they can be opened, and the results are reviewed by statistical analysis to help verify compliance to applicable standard.
Working with CSA Group, you will benefit from our long history of developing standards for drug packaging and other substances in liquid or solid form.
CSA Group’s first standard for recloseable child-resistant packaging, CSA Z76.1, was published more than 30 years ago and since then rates of hospitalization for medication poisoning among children have dropped by 72%. Today, the standard contains requirements for senior-adult use effectiveness, as well as guidance for instructions to be included with these packages.
CSA Group has also developed a related standard, CAN/CSA Z76.2, for non-recloseable child-resistant packages. This standard defines the testing for features restricting access by children while not limiting how many units or cells can be opened by seniors.
