CSA Group is your leading source for testing and inspections solutions for marine equipment. As a global leader in testing, certification and inspections, we understand the importance of having an agency with fast turnaround times and global recognitions and accreditations.
The Marine Equipment Directive
The Marine Equipment Directive (MED) standardizes the testing, certification and inspection process for a variety of equipment used and located on ships that are registered in a European Union (EU) member state. The MED is used to help increase safety, harmonize the testing and approval processes throughout the EU, reduce the amount of marine pollution and allow for improved free trade throughout the EU.
The MED mark of conformity, also known as the Wheelmark, can be placed on marine equipment that falls under Annex A. I of the directive, and has successfully completed certification. Only Notified Bodies, appointed by European Union Commission, grant permission for the use of the Wheelmark. By ensuring your marine products are tested and certified to MED requirements, manufacturers can benefit from a greater ability to market their products throughout the EU and around the world.
