Space heaters are designed to heat a chilly room, not to dry clothes, heat food or warm your bed. Each year many people are injured or killed because of improper use of space heaters.
If you have a space heater in your home, follow these important tips:
- Do not touch the heater when it is on. It can burn your skin or set your clothes on fire.
- Never hang wet mittens or snowsuits on or above the heater to dry. The dampness can cause a shock hazard and the clothing can catch fire when it gets hot.
